Canon Creative Media Camp 2017

This year I was chosen to lead a segment of Creative Media Camp 2017. As the name suggests it’s a week long creative media workshop. Students aged around 14-20 take part and learn a variety of creative digital skills. They also gain experience of how the creative industries work as the segments are led by experienced practitioners including myself. Four groups tackled different creative briefs which required them to communicate one of the UN Sustainable Development goals.

This group, “RAAW” chose the subject of poverty reduction. Watch their video to see what they did.

Animation workshop at Imagine Children’s Festival 2016

I ran a playshop (workshop for you stick-in-the-muds) for children at the Imagine Children’s Festival 2016 which took place in the Southbank Centre. With some assistants from the London College of Communication and Westminster University we taught groups of about ten aged five or more the basics of stop motion animation.

The first step was to come up with a very simple story, something character driven where an event happens to them or because of them.

Then we created articulate characters and props from card and paper. We brought these to life using a lit green screen with a DSLR camera taking pictures from above. The images went straight to a laptop which swapped out the green screen for a photographic background.

Here’s all the animations together!

Animation workshops with Chocolate Films

Animated films made by kids, youths, adults, seniors and people with learning disabilities.
These have all been produced in extra-curricular workshops taught by myself.

I regularly work with charities, schools, museums and other centres of learning to lead workshops in animation. The mediums we work with include stop motion using 2D or 3D forms, paper, plasticine etc… as well as 2D and 3D computer based animation.
